Difficulties in reading: Dyslexia
In the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) dyslexia is described in a subcategory of neurodevelopmental disorders called "specific learning disorder". Within this category, all the abilities where the child has difficulties should be specified, be it reading, written expression, arithmetic or mathematical reasoning.
It is a difficulty with high prevalence and one of the main causes of low school performance in part of the students. The main problem of dyslexia is its incompatibility with an educational system where most of the contents are taught through the written code. This causes that the student has many problems to follow the rhythm of the class, fatigue and end up losing concentration. The specific difficulties or disorders in the development of learning in children constitute a set of problems that significantly interfere with school performance, hindering the adequate progress of the affected child and the achievement of the goals set in the different educational plans.
The intervention of dyslexia must be completely personalized and adapted to the age of the child, since each child will suffer different deficiencies and will require different interventions according to their needs. The way to overcome dyslexia is basically to learn to read and write again, adapting the rhythm of learning to the abilities of the child.
As for the solutions, comment that currently there are many methods and specific material for working dyslexia: mental activity exercises, language, reading and writing, perceptive-motors, etc. These are activities in the form of very useful games to bring the child's own abilities to the highest level of competence.
